SLK gear indicator not working

Hello all, I have just bought a manual 6 speed SLK 200 Kompressor (2000 on an X). My question is, does the gear selector indicator in the dash work on autos only or is mine faulty. Thanks very much. :?

Gear indication will only work on an auto, the only exception is an A Class with ACS. The cluster will have the space for the display but it is not used. The instrument cluster has a version coding to turn this option on but as there is no ESM (electronic selector module) on a manual car it has no way of telling what gear the gearbox is in so it is not used. Hope this clears up your confusion.

looks like i was wrong i checked and it does only work on the auto soory m8

No probs chap. Had a feeling it would only be for the autos. Mind you may get an auto next time as first gear into second is a load of rubbish.
