SLK Heater stays on even with keys out!!

I have a SLK 200 Komp 2001 and the heater/ blowers constantly keep going, even when the key is out of the ignition (it is not the 'rest' function button, as it keeps going even past the 30 minutes!). I have had to take the fuse (number 36) out to stop the battery running flat, also the controls do not work in terms of adjusting air speed/ temperature.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

If so I would be grateful to hear of any suggestions as to what it could be and how to overcome it.

just wondered if anyone has any information regarding this, otherwise it looks like an expensive trip to Merc!!!! Thanks
