slk main beam fault

Hi thanks for letting me join, have just bought a 230 slk which had the full beam working only when I pushed the stalk forward and then the next day it seems that it does not work at all only head lights on when I switch them on, wipers and indicators still operated as they should, any ideas? Thanks.

I take it Have you checked the fuse for the main beam as sometimes it is different from the headlights/Indicators.
Is it a R170 or the new shape, not sure which year they changed 2004?. I had the same problem with my wife's one when she had it. It was the actual indicator/main beam switch itself, the contacts were dirty. I do not think that there is a way of cleaning them without dismantling it on this, but someone will tell you. I ended up getting another one from a scrappies and changing it. Quite a while ago though.

Some models have a control unit for lights, they have been known to fail, the switch just gives a signal to the control unit which provides the voltage to the bulbs.
May be worth reading any codes .
