I have a SLK (1998). The wipers are not working, the stalk has been replaced, but the garage says that now it just clicks. They can get the wipers going but as soon as the module kicks in they stop working. They say that there is not a relay and a new module is reuired at about £700 for the part.

Is this correct?

Plaese help!!

Many thanks

Are you saying that there is a relay then? The garage is a local garage and have always been very good with service and prices. they have been in touch with MB dealers who have advised of new module.

Should I ask the garage to check what you have mentioned in your diagram??

Almost every MB made was one of these relays, often known as the N10, you can see it in the link, and that is for your car, by all means tell them

SLK Wiper module

Thanks again

I have taken the diagram to the garage and it almost looks as if it is the same thing, it is a black module, approx 6" x 6" x 1".

he says it controls wipers, lights, hard top etc.

If it is correct, can you suggest anywhere that i could get it at a better price?

SLK Module

Would the part have a part number or something on it, so I know I have the correct one?

The part has been tested by and is working fine, any other ideas what it could be as I have changed the stalk also and it is not working still.

As you have ruled out the stalk and the relay, it would be best to examine the switches inside the wiper motor gearbox, the picture below is for a W202 but yours will work in much the same way. 6 or 7 small bolts will be secureing the gearbox cover.

Are you sure fuse is definitely ok?

The garage are probably running the motor on the brushes only
(that’s the 2 terminals to the right of the “red box” which are fed by the Green and White wire in small picture)
and are bypassing the intermittent and parking switches inside the motor gearbox, in other words the motor is being run continuously at one speed and neither the park or intermittent switch are involved in the exercise.

That’s what it sounds like to me, the stalk and relay are ok so it must be the motor, it needs to be opened to check for sure. The 3 switches should be undamaged, in line and not twisted in any way, the should contact and rest on there respective “rails” when the gearbox cover is screwed back on.

Other than that, maybe a bad connection, for example at the plug, which I think is located where the wiper relay is housed at fuse box.
