I have just bought an SLK 200 Kompressor (1998) and have a few queries that don't seem to have been addressed on this site before. The car was imported from the Middle East. When I hit the 120 KMH mark, and audible alert (bleep) soundsDoes anyone know how i can reset this or switch it off. I also have terrible radio reception. There is an aerial on the car but I believe it is for the phone. Does anoyone know where the aerial is situated on this car?

Hi Rocksy
The permanent speed limiter is set for the driving on winter tyres etc the LIM indicater lamp would be on I think if the bulbs OK. You can press the cruise control away from you or push the end of it in, the light in the cruise control arm should also go out.I think a kickdown also resets the permanent speed audible setting but not the brake pedal as with cruise control. According to my "manual" the Permanent speed limiter can be set to a value of 190 km/h and the max speed of the car so maybe it's a fault. Perhaps an expert can shed some more light.
You could try to locate the emmitter and remove a wire as a last resort (I only have heard the lights on and the handbrake warning when moving, audible alarms).
The aerial is mounted along the inside of the back bumper I think, but there is a "Antenna Amplifier" in the boot nearside, maybe that could be the cause. :?
Good luck
Peter

hi Rocksy
All cars sold in Middle East are fitted with a bell or buzzer that goes off above 120 klicks it was the law out there. With regard the radio depends which country it was from Saudi lots of cars were fitted with short wave radios some of the other countries the tuning was set up on US system, which has different tuning steps to Europe. If it was from UAE or Oman should be UK system. I know all this because I live out their for 10 years. PS hope you did check on chassis number a lot of stolen car used to end up in middle east!!!
