I have purchased some nylon tubing required for extending the vacuum lines on the PSE unit in the boot of the SLK. I intend to carry out this modification within the next few weeks. I will have some tubing left over, probably enough for a three or four more cars, if any SLK owners intend doing this mod I will happily post the required pieces to them.

This is the link I shall be following..........................

Well had some spare time this afternoon so decided to carry out the mod and turn the PSE unit uoside down, easy job and only took 50 minutes, however a couple of words of warning...........

As everyone knows the vacuum tubes need extending by about 300mm, but beware of the two wiring connections to the unit, mine only just reached the unit, after some exertive pulling on the wiring loom - so my advise is to check first before cutting the vacuum pipes because once you have reached this stage there is no turning back!

Also be very careful when pushing on the vacuum extension over the original (yellow) pipes as the original pipes are easily kinked.

When dismantled my circuit board was fine and no sign of water ingress, but I did clean the board with a SOFT nylon toothbrush using Isopropyl Alcohol (purchased from Maplins). You will need a T10 tork size wrench in order to take apart the PSE unit.

All in all I was happy to make sure all was okay and carry out the "update" just in case things go wrong in the future.

Took loads of pictures, but never seem to have much luck in posting - they always come out as "thumbnails" however will try later to post full size pics (might need some advise)

I think that there is an extension for the cable, available as a spare part

Malcolm, I did ask after reading the Australian link, but my local dealer said they had never heard of it - might be worth other members comments, because if an extension is available it could be a help to others;)
