Between the speedo & rev counter there is a digital km per hr display. Can this display be changed to mph, or atleast something more useful?

Also, a demo I tried last year had electric driver seat with memory. I was shown how the key could be personalised to know your seat position and set to move back a couple of inches upon removing the key from the ignition. However, I have been told that this 'key dependency' setting option has been deleted from '06 model year (built July/August '05 onwards)?

The KPH display is mandatory as there is no kph scale on the speedo. By law you have to have one somewhere, which is why you can't turn it off.

If it exists, key dependancy should be in the menus somewhere. Can't comment on the new ones, my 05 year E class has it though.
I couldn't get the seat retract to work on mine until I discovered that it needs to be further forward than I have it, so it works for the Mrs, just not me. The wheel still moves up though.

In the UK you have to have a km/h visible. Unfortunately they don't seem to cater for selectable kph / mph so MB have rightly put the kph on permanently. On some models however you can add selectability to that area of the dash. Look for a thread called ECU reprogramming.

you cant get the R171, if its a 2005 year model or later, to do this, by ECU reprogramming.

a trip to kent and 1hr with a MB tech and the correct gear proved this. couldnt even get the COMAND to unblock the region code for the DVD.

the Key dependency has been stopped. EU health and safety law prevents this
