Can anyone please tell me what the electrical connector to the "top" of the engine (M211 958) is for? Also I have a "tied" back (unconnected) sensor beside the front nearside engine block, any ideas? Cheers in anticipation.

I think I know the sensor you mean Owen as my engine has one too - in the middle of the cam cover on the near-side? It has to be unplugged on mine in order to get the rear engine cover off. I don't know what it's for though, sorry.

As for the 'free' connector - I've seen reference on one of the American forums to a sensor that is bolted to the side of the block at the front. Maybe it's for that? They call it the cam position sensor but is obviously not the same as the one we have on our engines. My engine definately does not have this sensor fitted but I can't recall ever seeing a loose connector in that area.

Thanks Malcolm & Andy, the diagram is great Malcolm and very useful thanks. I think, Andy, you have the one I mean on top to the rear, mine is very oily, more than elswhere. Can't see anything on the diagram that would fit though. As for the second question it's a sensor with connector & wire just tied back and unused. It's to the front, nearside just behind the belts under the exhaust manifold. I have a feeling it could be for an "engine knock sensor" for "pinking" etc.
