Hi
Have recently bought an slk 280 for my girlfreind, when we went to pick up the car they had put the wrong wheels on her, so unable to take the car home we played and checked things over, the thing i noticed was if we opened the roof outside with the key fob, you had to have it pressed against the door handle to make the roof activate? when she purchased this option, we both assumed it was a stand off type bleep and it opens...
Can someone who also has this option on theres, confirm or deny that this is the case..
many thanks

It is working correctly (and safely)(and annoyingly).

You can look at R171.com for an illegal 1 sec push / key hold which also offers some other illegal options like opening up to 30mph.

If you haven't noticed already the boot leans back quite far when it opens to operate the roof. So don't open it whilst parked against a wall or an expensive car.

the remote roof will operate from the driver and passenger side door areas.. you need to face the key at the door handle but can be stood about 3m away if you like. the reason it wont work without holding the button down is due to a Health and safety law governing hydraulic operations.

garbage. ruins the idea of remote operation. as said. www.r171.co.uk will sell you a unit that adjust the button press. you have to hold it for 1 second then it will auto open/close. the reason you need to hold that button is, if you flick the roof open button twice quickly, all 4 windows drop and the roof stays shut. you can drive like this. altho it gets a bit blustery.

the option is very good when you have a really hot day and you dont want to sit in the car while the roof opens.

the device you can buy also has the option of installing rain sensing wipers, DVD activation while driving and unlocking the DVD region coding. if you have COMAND that is.
