SLK roof problem?

I have recently purchased SLK 200K (2003) and seem to be having minor roof operating problems which weren't apparent when the car was purchased (isn't that always the case!). When the roof starts to operate the windows lower down as they should and the boot starts to rise but stops at the point the roof should pull back from windscreen. Any thoughts out there as to why it's started doing this? Many thanks

Malcolm will know I expect when he turns up.
Perhaps if you disconnect the battery that will reset the microprocessor
that controls the roof ?
This is only a semi inteligent guess I should add.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not the most technically minded, but can cope with the battery disconnect. Curious to see if it solves the problem.

I think Ive read somewhere the control box for the roof is in the boot and they get wet and thats when all the problems with the roof start.
I washed the wifes SLK a few days ago and noticed that water had been getting into the boot but Im not going to do anything about as I want this SLK to curle up and die so we can get rid of it. I dont want to prolong the ownership of the wifes SLK any longer than I need to.

MR2 was a good car!!!!!!!

I suspect the micro switches at the front of the roof are sticking. Remove the roof lining and then the switches (inside the catches). Cut the tiny rubber boot from the switch and this should sort it.

You may need to manually release the catches to remove the roof lining. There is a blanking plug on the lining at the front and underneath it is a allen socket or torx that you have to turn to release.

Jib, it is a simple mod to fit the wiring extension and turn the pump over to prevent water ingress

I am off to bed now, I would prefer a VIN first 6 number due to on going mods

Good News,
I had a go at it over the weekend, and it now works.
It actually turned out to be the microswitch on the roof catches, it was the passanger side one that was sticking.

we just sold our SLK with the same problem - we told the new owner and said that Merc in WSM would sort it - that they did in 2 mins - our prob was a slight mis-aliignment of the catch on the windscreen on the drivers side - a tiny 2mm adjustment and now the roof works perfectly.

It too used to stop at the point where the roof comes away from the windscreen - a short thump to the offending side cured it!

Well at least it was worth all of the effort.
