I have an slk 200 2000 model, cant find anything on rust on the tie bar bits at the rear of the car, the flat bars that are held on with an allan screw at sill and floor.

Do you need these, I was thinking of getting two made with flat bar stainless coz mine are rusted to death, but there seems to be little mentioned on here about them.

I took mine off a year ago and ground them down and painted them in hammerite but they have rusted again just as bad.

Oh and It's worth getting the cover off the fuel pump and filter and doing something in there coz the carrier on mine was rusted and hell to get the fuel filter out, would have thought in there it was safe.

This was covered some time ago on here and the chap in question bought new ones in the end, i belive the cost was about £20 each, and yes you need them, they keep the chassis from twisting when the roof in down!

I wouldn't use hammerite as it drys 100% hard. OK for an iron gate but useless for steel brace bars which flex & bend. This just cracks the paint & allows water in:shock:
