You may want to check it in about 153000 miles :D.

I'm assuming that type49 knows the SLK has a timing chain and that's why his reply is cryptic. I would think so too but I'm not a merc mechanic.
It seems that the A class has a few timing chain problems if you get a bad one but the rest of the merc range seem to have no undue problems and chains should be good for 150000/2000000 miles.
There is a recent thread on timing chains. Search under 'timing chain' and follow down to a thread called 'Timing chain, when to change'.

type49 may well have offered a cryptic response because a search, as suggested by David, would have given the required answer without the need to post.

Agreed, but with only 4 posts the guy (or lady monk) needs a bit of help. When I was new (not on this site but earlier on a Mazda site), I didn't understand what searching can do and it's confusing when experienced people all know their way around and you don't.
Plus, in the cryptic, I think, type49 was saying the SLK is timing chain not belt and that wanted spelling out too.
I'm exuding peace and harmony today bro. Got to go to supermarket in a minute. GRRRRRR.......everyone out of my way!

The slk will have a timing chain, and there is no specific time for changing, this will depend upon servicing and the way the car is driven/abused etc. as guide i checked the chains on my Jag when the head was off at around 170000miles and there was no wear evident in the chain although the guides looked a bit worn so you should be ok for a few miles yet, i think the general thinking is around 250000 on the Mb engines if well looked after.

For what its worth, the bulk of the wear on a chain drive is mostly to the sprocket teeth and not the chain, if the chain has tired out (especialy inside a "sealed " engine) so have the sprockets.

Dead right when the teeth have worn away and are sharp the chain can jump
