Noticed when I was washing the wife's SLK that when I lifted the boot lid the water that lays in the surround wasn't draining away on the lefthand side - drivers side is okay.

Question is, I guess there must be some form of a drain tube that takes the water away, how do I access this or is there an easy fix - tried low compressed air blast but didn't clear,

Thanks in advance

Drains

use a length of wire approx 30" long,(stripped out of a piece of twin and earth) fold the end back on itself so there is no sharp point gently prod it down the drain which exits at right angles to the grating can`t remember whether it was front or back! that is usually enough to dislodge any crud that gets trapped, exits in front of the rear wheel

Well, got out in the cold on Sunday and did the wire trick - which partially cleared the restriction.

Info for other owners when I looked under the car where the drain tube exits the body I noticed that although the drain tube was now clear the water could not completely drain away. After jacking up the car, all was revealed, where the rear wheel throws up the mud and debris (probably worse on the nearside as the muck from the kerbside gets thrown into the wheel arch) into the underside of the car the bottom of the drain tube was covered in hardened mud so the water could not escape from the drain tube. Ten minutes with a prong and the blockage was cleared.

So now when I wash the car I will squirt the hose pipe under the wheel arch and make sure the build up of mud is kept clear of the drain pipes. ;) ;)
