Hello all, I’m thinking of buying an SLK320 which has been dry stored for over 10 years.

The rust on it hasn’t worsened in 10 years, but is in the usual places (arches, front and rear, along with above the rear number plate)

I suppose my question is, are they worth investing the money into, to repair them? They’re fantastic cars but their values seem very, very low.

I have a fantastic body shop who has done work for me in the past down the road from me, so can easily get the work done.

Opinions?

The cars just had a fresh mot with no advisories on that, from what I could see when looking it didn’t seem to bad anywhere else but the crispy arches and boot area.

I have a R170 SLK 230 and they're definately worth sorting out. Values of really good ones are steady and perhaps rising a little, or about to. The rear subframes are often OK but they all seem to develop rusty arches. Mine is more or less mint, save for some minor rusting on the leading edges of both front wings. I have sanded, rust remedied and covered those areas in Dynax and they haven't really got any worse. Lovely fun cars which are well worth looking after in my opinion.

Thanks for that, that’s really helpful. It’s a case of getting it sorted and then kept on top of!
