Hi All.
My front elec windows (w124 TE) are getting slower and slower (almost stop altogether when engine not running). does it sound like motors are getting old and need replacing, or might a clean up / WD40 sort them? Is replacing motors expensive / easy??
Thanks

Have you checked that the battery is giving 12volts, with the 124 you do not get all of the nasties that affect later models.

Ric,

I would try to lubricate the system first as I guess its getting long in the tooth by now. I would use a low viscosity oil on the sliders (WD40 only cleans and lubricates for a short period) and some talc on the vertical channels. As you will have to take off the door casing in any case, check, clean and protect the electrical connections.

Silicone lube / low viscosity oil??

Thanks for the advice. Can anyone recommend a Silicone lube / low viscosity oil that may help??
Cheers
PS - if still slow, where would I get new motors? Are they hard to fit?

Most unusual to be motors as motor normally works or it does not, you have to be careful what you put on the channels, may make it worse. If you have got the full 12 volt, I would take off one panel and feel how much play in the glass and channels, there should also be enough free play to test the up-down move ment to see how much energy is required. there is a screw at the bottom of the channel for adjustment.but as I always say test the voltage on the motor itself, could be poor earth wire

Ric,

Low viscosity oil such as 3in1 etc. Don't put the oil on the window side channels (as if you would). To use the oil will require the door casing to come off

PS Anyone see my posts re "TE boot hinge attack" in this forum and "engine shock absorber" in Drivetrain section? Am getting greedy now but would appreciate advice. Nick, have booked my 220 in with Thwaites for new spheres, heater motor and other bits. Ta for recommendation - they've bin really helpful (unlike Tim at GCS who's Mr Misery)...
