More commonly known as web crawlers, they crawl the internet following each link they find and index the pages they get to. Yahoo's is called slurp.

It can only do good,, for when someone searches for a fault,,then our forum comes up with the answer

Put it this way, I should be:

Kept at arms length
Take care while handling
Wear a protective hat, gloves and have eye protection...and stand well back, as can be unpredictable
Dont tamper

But most of all :
Keep a bucket of water handy, in case of any emergencies.
