All,

This is most annoying. Just got my SL320 last week. Tried to fit the wind deflector for the first time a couple of days ago. See photo, I think I have torn the leather ever so slightly.

Do you think I need to get the leather doctor at approx £40 or has anyone any advice how to deal with this type of thing?

Regards
Kenny

I think that you will find that it is not leather, its a vinyl.

I would push a tiny piece of cloth into the hole so that it is flat, then glue the vinyl onto the cloth and fill with a plastic paint.

Thanks Malcolm,

Plastic paint? Is this a B&Q job or would you get ths from a motor factor?

You need to get the tiny piece of backing cloth flat and you can do this with a pin or matchstick. Not sure if yours is black or blue, but you could use emulsion paint do a test on the color, and leave it to dry as the color is not the same when wet. by applying the paint with a match stick you can fill the hole up.

As paint dries it shrinks so more than one application needed. As emulsion paint sticks like glue you could try it without the backing and when you apply the first coat wait 2 mins and press you finger on the fluffy bits
and they will stick down in the paint.

When you have filled the hole,on the last coat leave it 5 mins and the press your finger onto it and that will give a grain like finish to match.

Thanks again for detailed reply Malcolm. I am working for next 4 days, however, when I get a bit of free time next week I shall have a go at this repair.

Thanks
Kenny
