I am looking at smart for two. 2010 on both diesel and yest petrol I am interested in. Opinions on either.
Use will be 12cmile to from mummies parents and bimbling around to supermarket. Plus maybe 3 runs a Yr to lower normandy. Inclined to diesel. But I note DPF (I ok with that) but I see a number of sensors which can do my head in maybe less on petrol?

I looked into buying one of these. No.1 avoid MHD! Apparently sellers even remove the button to hide it being one! The petrol engines in the 451 are made by Mitsubishi and seem to have a decent reputation. I didn’t look into diesels as the idea was a second car to nip into London (ULEZ). A modern diesel engine tucked in the back doesn’t sound fun to work on.

Certainly is tight fitting. Petrol looks same I think many jobs are drop motor stories long mounting bolt seems the preferred method.? On balance petrol does seem easier choice. Perhaps less dtf involved.

Power steering wasn't standard and it seems not many have it. I test drove a 451 that did not have it ... you wouldn't think it'd be such hard work without assisted steering but I was knackered after I'd parked it .... perhaps I've just gone soft in my old age. Lol
I bought 1 with power steering :)

I don't have power steering in my R451 - it has 155 width front hoops, and they're at the correct tyre pressure... I've not had any arm straining with it.
I prefer the way the diseasal drives with the gearbox, wanted an 84bhp petrol, bought a 54bhp petrol after trying them all

Done 50K miles in it - turbo actuator, engine ecu and gearbox ecu are the only things above normal servicing

I think I was just expecting pas because the Roadster has it. My 1st 451 had 155's on the front but my current 451 has 175's

Same as that tho steering was much better in petrol than on diesel tyres?

The 451 84bhp is the one to have, apart from the Brabus of course, and definitely with Power Steering. :)

I noted diesel was a bitch to set off but petrol was easy I vin decoded and petrol was not ps so I think it must have been tyres, I thought petrol had bigger tyres but being f daft I forgot to note size I would say diesel had lower profile jobs and maybe that was difference

I have both a petrol and diesel one.

I have been commuting in the diesel one, but I am selling soon. The ride is very hard and the roads in east Sussex are the worst I have experienced in the south. It makes me dread driving around. It's manners in high speed windy lanes can be a bit "unpredictable"

Averaging 71mpg over 4500 miles. A lot of that was over winter.

My wife has a non turbo 1l 451. Hers has PAS but it's not needed.

The diesel is jamn packed back there, but most jobs easily doable. Mine has a dpf and regens every 500 miles with normal driving.
