I have noticed a few times lately that I can smell diesel smoke in the cabin of my ML. I have had a look outside & in th rear view, but cannot see any sign of smoke. Any ideas what could be at fault, and is it a cheap fix ??

Cheers,
Mark

Check your rear door is closing properly.
If this is not the problem have your exhaust checked for leaks as a matter of urgency as exhaust fumes in a car is a very dangerous situation, never mind the cost get it done !!!.

Not the door.

I will get it checked out. Cost isn't the issue, just need to know when I'm being ripped off by the local stealer.

Are you sure you've not been following another vehicle at the time and picking up their exhaust fumes via your heating/ventilation system:confused:

there are some checks you can do yourself

1, take the engine cover off, make sure there is no black tar around the injectors (the seals are prone to failing)

2, while the cover is off look at the front of the engine, there is a square block, this is your diesel pump any leaks?

3, stick your head over the airfilter area if there is a stong smell and maybe a hissing noise possibly the seal on your first cat.

4, look underneath you car at the front any leaks?
Hope this helps

It's booked in for Tomorrow, so I'll let you know. Dealer says it smells more like diesel.

It turned out to be a leak on one of the injector pipes. Fixed now, everything now pressure washed, smell should soon dissapear.

Pleased you have it fixed, a contractor I used had his ML270 go up in flames on the M4 due to an injector pipe leaking and spraying fuel around the engine bay.
