Mercedes 190 W201 2.0 - 1991 M102.962
Hi everyone, first post here - sorry if I am not posting to the correct category/thread.

I own a W201 190E 2.0 with the engine code M102.962 and for the last two weeks, I've been smelling gas inside the cabin - however only very rare occasions - both times I've smelled it I happened to gotten fuel the night before - same tonight, I only filled up the tank last night so wondering if it could be related?

No smell of gas outside the car at all though which is very interesting - went around the car and couldn't smell it other than the in trunk and inside the cabin.

Checked the hose lines in the engine bay, as well as underneath the car near the end and nothing is leaking that I can see.

Has anyone came across similar issues before? Where should I be looking first to try and track this down?

Thanks so much, any help much appreciated!

Take the air filter case off, inspect the fuel governor which is bolted to the metering head, they leak.

Yes, and if they do leak then fuel is vented into the rocker box or valve cover ...this will eventualy get down in to the sump to dilute engine oil .

Fuel just drips from unit but can’t get into engine as it’s external.

So that 20 years less than i have ..never known that part be called a govorner You are talking about the EHA valve then they do leak and it will be visable by just looking at the side of FD as fuel will leak from the side of the meterin head or fuel distribTtutor. The "O" rings inside the EHA can be replaced on their own .

You must be well old then. ;) The internal (inside)rings? Do you mean the sealing o rings ( green) as in my picture. I have never opened one as I thought they were sealed from factory.

Those sealing o rings aren't internal, they are on the mating face. They do leak internally.

Yes and yes. and whichever source of the leak, it's most unlikely to get into the engine. Quantities are small and it'll evaporate off. Not good though.

This after 27 years with my M104 engine. Mine leaked years ago so Ireplaced the O-rings. No good. Replaced the governor - yes, MB calls it that.

Haha. Maybe he's French or German. Spark plugs: Bougies/Zündkerzen. Also glow plugs - bougies de préchauffage/Glühkerzen.

Candles = Bougies/Kerzen.
