I have found this forum invaluable and am just trying to feed back my limited experience in the hope is might help someone else.
I have had my W203 C240 for just over a month now and the one thing that really got up my nose (sorry!) was the smell from the aircon for the first 15 seconds when it was turned on.
At the weekend I bought a tin of Comma air conditioning cleaning stuff from Halfords at about 11 quid for the tin. I did what it said on the tin, turned recirculate on, fans on highest setting, and set the tin off in the rear paaaenger footwell with the front seats pushed all the way forwards.
I was a little dismayed to watch the whole aerosol expend the entire contents into the car and leave a small puddle on the floor and the back of the leather seats, but let me tell you, there is no smell from the aircon now, so I guess it must have killed the nasty smelly fungus or mold or whetever had made it's home inside the evaporator unit.
At 11 quid, I would recommend anyone with an out of warranty car to try it before despairing at the thought of major surgery on their car, I do not know how long this will last, but at 11 quid I am happy to do it once a year or so anyway. Just remember to maybe put down some paper towell on the floor to catch the larde drops that spit out and fall into the footwell.
I am so happy with it, I may well see if it has any beneficial effect on my teenage son's trainers and socks.
