I have an SLK230 which has developed a rotten eggs smell I think coming thru the ventilation system. I have heard that filters occasionally need a neutralising spray applied? Has anyone any guidance or tips?? Thanks. Phil

Rotten eggs

The rotten egg smell can be associated with Cat Converters. Does it smell more when your car is standing still with the engine running. It maybe that you have a bad joint in the exhaust after the cat and the pong is wafting up from there.
I don't know about the SLK but on manual 190's the clutch master cylinder is inside the car. If the seals are dodgy, clutch fluid can escape and run down under the carpet, reacting with the sound deadening material on the floor pan and producing an awful smell which gets worse when the exhaust heats the floor up.
 Alternatively, some of your mates may have wired a dead fish to your manifold as a joke.

Hi

The heating\ac system can cause a eggy smell. I am told it is due to bacteria breading on the evaporator. Three is a spray which can be bought either from the dealers or you local AC specialist. A matter of spraing it through the vents from either the outside and using the heater motor to draw in the spray or removing various vents to gain acess to the evaporator.

Hope this helps.
