Smoke and coughing on first start today, W202

Hi everybody,

Today, when I turned on my car (W202 c250 td), it puffed and sputtered and sent out smoke of a color I could not decipher for 4-5 seconds before going stable. At the same time the idle was pretty erratic. When trying again later, it started perfectly.

For the two weeks I have owned it, it hasn't done like this. It has been stable right after ignition... and now I'm in total panic about my baby being ill.

The temperature here in Silkeborg, Denmark, was 13,5degCelsius this morning, so it was not because of cold weather I think.

Any ideas about what is going on here?

All the best,
Jens

Is there anything I, as a DIY-guy, can do to check anything?

Hej Jens, black smoke is a clogged air filter, white smoke air in fuel.

I would not worry at this stage, it started and runs

hi Jens and Malcolm,

I think that you have air in fuel.
I was the same problem with my W202 C250TD and i removed the fuel heater and now it's ok.
