Out last night and accelerated very hard from a near standstill. Revs right up to the red. Smoke everywhere - just like when I had my Merc. Diesel !

Does a petrol turbo do this naturally? I'd been tanking it around quite a bit before that so it wasn't the first time that evening that it had hit the high revs (maybe first time I noticed the smoke though).

It was dark so I couldn't see the colour - just saw the other cars choking :-D

I've got a slight problem at the moment where it seems to not like the cold mornings. Took it into the garage and they said there was an error code - something to do with a potential hole in an air pipe somewhere (they weren't very clear!).

Sounds to me like I may be getting too much fuel in at the wrong times - seem reasonable?

They cleared the codes and we're waiting for another cold morning to see if it comes back (!)

Any other thoughts? Is smoke normal for a K when pushed?

Never seen it in the day time - but never saw it on my diesel either.

cheers,
John.

Look like your tapers are gone. Be gentle with the acceleration.

Normally your catalyst and exhaust should absorb those black smoke, that what they are for to protect the environment.

Your valves.

Have a look at your MAF whether it dirty. Look at the DIY section posted by Parrot. This seemed the most like problem.

Also look inside the radiation whether there is any oil contamination, then you gasket is gone.

Oil looks fine.

Although I can't really tell what is a good level or not for the coolant (handbook apparently written by an illiterate) Seems a touch low but certainly isn't contaminated. But then would I see that from the expansion box?

Car's under warranty (not new just new to me) so don't want to bother Bllack C55 yet :) Just gathering your combined wisdom before returning to garage :)

cheers,
john.

Don't waste time gathering our opinion, if under warranty, get it fix by Merc dealer.

Have you check the MAF, look at the DIY section at this website where it is located?
