smoking E320 CDI

I have 2001 E320 CDI and when I floor the pedal loads of black smoke comes out of the exhaust,not just a bit,loads,like cars dissapear in a cloud it's quite embarrasing.The car runs great and is returning 38 to 42 mpg.As soon as I let my foot off the floor it clears and no smoke at all,it only does it on kickdown.anyone any ideas,I've only just got the car.

Hello there

Change your airfilter. I have an E220CDI that did exactly the same thing. Changed the airfilter (after advice from this site) and all is good!

As hillman above, you could take it out and see what condition its in,,when was it last changed

Yes airfilter, and you could also have a sticking EGR valve.. EGR =Exhaust gas Recirculating..it cleans the smoke from the exhaust, also run your car low on fuel and try some injector cleaner...one other thing has anyone put petrol in instead of diesel...

hi, air filter change sounds good, but apart from that, the symptoms you describe are quite normal for diesel + kickdown from my experience!
