Been a few years (start of Covid) since I’ve been to Windsor but, got to go this weekend.

What’s the M1/M25/M4 and M6/M40/A404 like for potholes and road surfaces? Any new speed cameras?

If the roads are crap I’ll take the CLS but, I’d like to take the w221 which I rarely drive due to the crap roads.

I’d use M1 or M40, surface on M40 is probably slightly better

Thanks for that Blobcat. The M40 add on another 45 mins in reality and that’s if I can press on a bit so will see if I can get the nipper into bed early tonight.

Major road works on M1 between J13-J15, I’d use A42/M42/M40 come off at High Wycombe J4 and A404 and then head for M4, then turn off at J6 to get to Windsor. I travelled up M25/M1 to Wakefield took 5.5hrs with road works, 3.5hrs on way home. Meant to say traffic builds up near J4 of M40 towards Slough hence detour.

Road works I don’t mind but when they had them originally some years back, installing the smart motorway, the craters that came with them were beyond horrific.

Any speed cameras on the m40 or is that the race track it always was?

Did not spot any speed cameras but relatively heavy traffic keeping speeds down. You always get someone in the outside lane when they could be in the left lane, but is that not true of all motorways.

M40 it is then.

I’ll probably do about 70mph as I’ll have the nipper with me and just chill in lane 1 wide eyed looking for craters. There’s been a few times I’ve swerved onto the hard shoulder to avoid the craters on the M1.

Funnily I’m looking on autotrader at this moment for something like a hilux or similar with a cab as a potential beater. I’ve taken taxis to solicitors and airports, a lot of local runs etc just to avoid pot holes, that’s how much I hate the fvcking things even though I’ll happily stop traffic to negotiate them.

Avoid the M25. Generally.

Roadworks at J11 are a total nightmare. We just don't visit our relatives any more. :(

No fixed speed cameras on the M40, but Warks, & TVP are quite active with unmarked police vehicles.

Did the M1 - A43 or what ever cuts across to M40 and then 404.

Not bad a few dodgy spots on the M40 that nothing that having a gap the vehicle infront wouldn’t allow you to spot and easily avoid.

Glad to say with the drama some will know I had since November 2023, all due to a ****** T87 relay, it was nice to use the w221 for what it does best.
