Snapped front spring

HI going to replace front springs on my 2010 c250 as one has snapped and trying to decide which are the best springs to get. Seems to be a large choice between Sachs Kilein and KYB. can anyone tell me which are the best and closest to the originals that would have been fitted from the factory. My old ones have 3 red dots on. Thanks for any info.

Best bet all round is original. I would do the other side at the same time.

Yes i am replacing both as a pair but just wondering which make the originals are. I pressume mercedes dont make their own brand or do they?

sorry ,Dont share that view.benz coils known for breaking, never had one break on any other make I owned ?
Not saying any other better,just that benz known for breaking.

IMO if you are just doing the fronts go for original - MB will want your chassis number as the springs are colour coded (rated) to each vehicle

Think I might go with the Sachs ones there's a sale on at eurocarparts this weekend £70 for a pàir. They are advertising 2 options one with sports suspension and one without. Mine is a c250 cdi I having altered the suspension from new so I presume non sports springs for Mine?

I bought front springs from ECP a few years back for the 210 and guess what they sagged within 18 months

Hope your got a good spring compressor dealer spring are not that much more expensive than aftermarket ones and you no they are going to fit had it to many times you get it stripped down then find wrong ones supplied

Although one has snapped could be that the OP drove in a huge pothole. The advice to replace both is because the other would lost its tensile strength. So you dont want be driving with a strong corner and a weaker corner.
As to the question on the springs from ECP, even if sachs are OE it doesnt mean what is at ECP is manufactured to MB spec and that of your particular car requirements.

The difference in price more often than not is there as you get what you pay for. As malcolm210 above, do it once do it right.

youll not get 2 at that price from mb, i think theyll be ok on a c250 , now that mb changed the struts , if it was a w211 etc id say no. the thing with dealer springs is youll get the correct rated spring to match the chassis, ecp will be a generic spring for all models.

I think broken springs are a fact of life these days. I've had a broken spring on 2 X Peugeot, 1 X Citroen and the current W211

A spring broke on my previous E220. I could see where it had corroded and snapped. I just replaced that side with an MB one with the same paint stripes as the original ( the dealer wanted to give me the wrong one based on the VIN and was only convinced when I showed him a photo of the original).
I drove the car for a couple of years after that and there was absolutely no difference in handling.

The trouble with aftermarket springs is getting the correct rating for your car, you could fit some and find it’s too high, too low or wrong spring rate, they could also be correct but you can’t tell until there fitted.

What happened in my case with the S210 was that MB supplied the wrong springs (even though I had supplied the VIN) and when my local garage tried to fit them they turned out to be Elegance (2in longer) and not Avantgarde springs so my garage bought ECP springs to get the car off the lift, the car handled like a boat and as said above the ECP springs sagged just outside the 1 yr warranty - so the lesson to be learnt from this tale is always check the part number even when dealer supplied - mistakes can be costly

Cant understand it. I have been driving since 1978 and have yet to break a coil spring .

Yr right I would be very annoyed, unless I drove in a manner that caused it.

Getting the right spring is not as easy as many might think. MB have a system for working out the correct ones which takes into account fitted options. Unless you are prepared to work it out then a dealer might be a good option. Not that they are guaranteed to get the correct one ;)

Thanks for all the comments. Not an easy a decision as i thought it might be. Either £70 ECP sachs and risk a poor fit or £140 genuine mercs from main dealer. EPC is just near me so i could easily return them if they were a poor fit i suppose.
