Good luck. Let us know if you get them.

Always worth checking Gumtree and eBay. Once you know what you need. ;)

Those snow chains only look like they ‘grip’ the front face of the wheel, - nothing appears to hold the chain centrally onto the tyre. I’d be worried that they may fall/slip off the tyre if any lateral force is applied.

They work very well. Take a look at this:

They grip the tyre via a ratchet system.

Much easier to fit than Weissenfels and Rud chains ;)

Has anyone used the snow socks mentioned above? Are they a faff to fit/use or would they be a good get out of jail card to keep in the boot for emergencies? I've watched the promo vids but prefer some real world experience and advice if available please

I only know one person who used them on his Honda CRV, they ended up getting wrapped around the wheel and ripping out his brake hoses - he wasn't happy

I had a set back around 2010 on a ford connect when we had heavy snow and -20 conditions over dec and jan. They were literally brilliant on polished snow and ice on a 10 mile stretch of mountain roads I used that weren't treated or snow ploughed and about 20 miles of main roads daily for about 2 weeks. after 2 weeks they were completely shot, although to be fair parts of main road I used them on where a mix of ice and tar. might as well have been driving a 4x4 with them on:D I prob would never have tried them except for the severe shortage of winter tyres available in my area due to the weather. Golden rule is take them off once you hit any sort of non ice/snow surface as I didn't out of laziness

forgot to add they are handy enough fitted providing you have enough clearance to get your hand to inside wall of tyre around your arch. Just pull them over top side of tyre, drive forward and finish off pulling over last bit of wheel. If you buy a set get a pair of fine-ish waterproof or leather gloves as your paws will always get frozen putting them on and taking them off
