Hi Folks,

Anyone know about the legal requirement for carrying/using snow chains in France?

AFAIK the headlamp thingys and GB stickers are only required by law if your staying over 30 days...... (but you do have to carry a spare bulb kit)

I'm off skiing in March and don't want to be caught out!

Also any tips on a route to Geneva would be good?

Thanks

driving in France

Hi,
Whats a BMW driver doing on here!

My info may be a little out of date, I used to work for the AA, but at that time spare bulbs, GB sticker, headlamp converters etc. were mandatory, even for a day trip. Lots of people ignored the rules and were stopped by the French police, who impose on the spot fines. Snow chains were only mandatory for roads over a certian altitude in the winter months, I cant remember the rule but basically all the major passes.

Since I am sure that you wouldn't be going abroad without breakdown cover why don't you ask your service provider for advice.

Mark.

Thanks Mark, I used to live in Germany, the bulb-kit requirement is the same there too.

P.S. I've had a C class and an ML in the last few years and I couldn't leave just because I've now got ownership rights to the outside lane.....
