and blow me down, it was the smoothest 5 mile journey on a back road I ever took! The car was a 1991 2.3 auto 7 seater with only 130000 on the clock and it rode a road (geddit?!) that I use every working day wonderfully - the route is a mix of bog-road with lurking undulations and stable narrow windy
2 lane. Compared to either my old 190e and my current Audi A6 its like a magic carpet.

The owner, who was giving me lift noted he bought it for 3 grand and reckoned he could sell it on quickly for 3500, I agreed he proberly could. I wonder was he hinting at something/someone? :D

Mike.

I could never say one bad word for the 300TE that I had, it drove like an MB

Good examples of these are still fantanstic cars. Not worth anywhere near £3500 though. Maybe if it were a 96 320 but not a 91 230.

My dad has a 1991 200TE which drives like its on air, smooth and very quiet, Ive driven it and at traffic lights have on occassions had to open the window to check the engine is still running. That car was my introduction to MB

my mum drives a w124 and everytime i'm back in ireland (sligo) i drive it, she got it in 1988 and it's still driving beautifully, however it did have one major hiccup a year or two ago, the engine seized (cam shaft chain snapped i think) so the engine needed to be replaced

but it's all fine now :)

the W124 is such a lovely car :)

Hi Mike,

with only 130000 on the clock
Fwiw, they ride like that for a lot longer - my 250TD has something like 220000 miles on the clock; only time the ride was 'bad' (and I didn't realise 'til someone more experienced told me) was when the rear self-levelling shocks. needed replacing.

Regards,

I have a 260E and an E220. Both drive like being on a magic carpet. 260 has 237k miles on the clock and still starts first time, burns no oil and reaches illegal speed limits very easy. 220 has 137k on the clock and is similar in performance. The only difference between the two is that the 220 went from Preston to Paris on one tank of fuel. The 260 would struggle to get to Dover on a tank:(
