Recently bought a Sl55 R230 2003, ABC all works (stunned and fingers crossed and thumbs crossed), but noticed that the Soft close doors don't work or the soft close trunk, how can I tell if I have soft close feature, thought is was standard on SL R230 and SL55?
If so where is best place to start investigations?
Massage seat function also not working is the system connected? I understand the fault finding and hose replacement route.

thanks for any advice

You possibly have a leak on the boot locking mechanism - cheaply manufactured plastic unit. Plenty of info on the web how to trace and fix these issues. Replacing the fuse doesn't work and may cause damage to the pse pump. I'd also be checking the pump. Common for these to become waterlogged due to boot leaks and start to fail.

As above.
Likely a vacuum leak.
Also if the pump is okay. The pump will disable the feature if it thinks that it overrun the expected time to get a correct closure.
You can reset it temporarily by pulling and replacing the pump fuse.

Typical failure modes for the vacuum system and soft close is the diaphragm in the lock mechanism splits causing a leak ( I seem to recall someone on here repairing one and posting a thread), beyond that the microswitch that detects closure may fail.

Very ommon problem.

Thanks, that's very useful information. On my e-class, my boot (trunk) lid closes by pressing the button almost every time. But every so often, it doesn't respond, and I have to close it manually. On other times, it just unlatches, but doesn't open, and I have to heave it open manually. Usually things start working properly again once the car has been switched off for a while. It's done this for years. I once asked the dealer to check it and fix it. But they quoted me a ridiculous price, so I said no, don't bother. I can put up with that minor inconvenience...
