My soft close on my boot has stopped working and I have to slam it. Also, my indicaters have stopped flashing when I lock the car although they flash when I unlock it.

Are the two problems related?

Soft close on my car is operated from a (vacuum?)pump in the boot. It's also used for central locking and the boot release. I am not sure if yours is the same.

Do you have soft close doors too? Can you hear a pump starting up when you push a door to? Do you have remote boot release? Do that still work?

The lights don't flash until all the doors and boot are closed. I wonder if the problem is related and the boot doesn't think it is closed which is why the lights don't flash.

I have a remote boot release but not soft close doors.

That sounds quite plausible Blobcat. Thanks.

Trust the fair sex to start with a high technology solution!

Can you just imagine what the hi-tech solution would have been if I had a big screwdriver then?

Yes you got it, I would have hit it with the screwdriver, just like using a hammer thing.

Sounds like the boot lock switch has backed up on the catch, so as blobcat says it doesnt know its in the catch position and therefore not soft closing via the vacuum system. Consequently not alarm activation.

Either that or possibly you have been very unlucky and had a water leak into the boot, which could of got into the pse, central locking pump area. Check under the boot lining around the spare for dampness. Fingers crossed it isnt this.

Or it could be a stray label from a Jimmy Choo caught in the locking mechanism..or if dampness maybe an excitable bollinger or moet frothing...

sounds the fuse in the rear sam has blown, this is common due to the fump sucking in water from the air then burning the pump out, hence fuse blown, its a 20amp fuse in the rear sam behind drivers seat in the compartment, new fuse will cure for a while but pump needs renewing!! got one for sale on the parts forum if needed!

I've found out that the indicators do flash if I slam the boot hard enough. If I fiddle about with the catch on the boot lid I can hear air escaping, so, I'm assuming that the pump is working and maybe the hose has come astray or something. Does that sound reasonable?

You may have water in the PSE pump in the boot. The SL roof tends to leak like a seive. Take the lower boot carpet out to expose the spare. On the left is the PSE pump (operates the CL) On top of it is the roof pump. Check to see if the foam is wet.

Hi Black, the boot and foam are as dry as a bone (which surprises me after the downpours we've had)

The dealer has reset it fro me by taking out and replacing the fuse. They say it is either the pump or an air leak.

Am I being thick, because I can't fathom out how it could be the pump as everything else works fine and the doors lock/unlock okay.

Well I guess they had to say something.

Main thing is "all's well that ends well", but have "they" said it won't happen again?:roll:

£760 later and the fault is cured.

That was easy wasn't it. Full marks for everybody who said it was the pump at fault.

All I can say yet again is - thank God for warrantees.
