Hello all,
If you have a old merc that has the air system soft closing boot air system, they wear and crack being plastic.
The picture on the left is from my SL the one on the right is from a ebay sale.
My picture just shows the start of cracking, the other side had cracked totally and was leaking air and timed out.
Stopped working and relied on you dropping the boot from a height to get it to lock which required several attempts at times.
I fixed the problem by applying a lot of epoxy resin (fast setting) along joint on the other side not shown were the air was leaking
out due to broken locking clips.
I see this as a temporary fix, on the left picture you can see the part number. Do i buy from a stealer or has anybody been happy
with another supplier?
All comments much appreciated

Doubt you would get that part from an autofactor due to the rarity of the car - small market - but do ask.

No point in going second hand as its a wear issue so any second hand part may well have the same fault.

Ask mb - and try for discount. If you know an indy ask them to order at trade.

Also try the MB reman website - a hidden gem.

Your temp fix if perfect. leave it be.

Thanks for the comments, i agree buying second hand is a fools errand. For the moment i shall see how my epoxy resin lasts.
Found a supplier in the US (MotorKing) which makes copies.
As cars age and you want to keep, spares become more challenging. Last summer needed a new drivers side 1/4 window motor.

Indeed.
This is a very odd one from Merc UK and I have seen this before - it defies logic only to keep the brit market not maintaining their cars.

I needed a door handle LED for my W220 about 3 years ago. I asked merc in the UK - NLA I was told.
As i always back and forth in Germany, popped into the local dealer - Ja Keine Problem. Had it the next day.

I was always buying parts from the fatherland when the price was right.
