My E350 is now booked for an A7 service with MB Tonbridge who have reopened and I have booked the recall software update about which they emailed several months ago. After discussing with Alex at https://www.amfmercedes.com/ he has suggested that I am likely to see a reduction in power and mileage. Prior to this MB yesterday warned me that the update would overwrite any remapping although as yet this is not something I had considered. Although I would like to save the planet, with Boris, Trump, Bolsonaro and the rest in control an ECU update on my modest vehicle is unlikely to contribute significantly and so I am thinking of cancelling the update and instead having a remap which Alex advises will improve MPG, power and torque with little downside. I know others have strong views about remapping and I would be grateful for a comment....thanks

I would think that if the car goes to MB for a service the NOx software update will be done as soon as the car is hooked up to their system MB are very keen to do this to mitigate any legal action against them on emissions

Why are you taking a 5 year old car to MB for a service when Alex is close by, probably more knowledgeable as well as cheaper! It's what I would do with both my cars!

Good point Chris - and I discussed with Alex this morning. I signed up for an MB service package only to maintain the MB service record and the Mobilo cover and had intended to have only the essential routine work done by MB including at this A7 service the transmission fluid and filter change. All other work was to be done by an independent as did not realise until this morning that Alex (and others) can maintain the MB service record online as long as he uses MB parts. I will cancel my MB package. We had a W210 for 18 years serviced by an independent and I have no need of the extravagant premises, free drinks and newspapers. Our other 2 cars are also serviced by the same really good independent.
