I think I have made my mind up on my new car. I have finally settled on a W210 E220 CDI Avantgarde Facelift. I have owned a Yaris T-Sport for the past eight months but want something a lot bigger. I am only 20 Years old and would have loved to get a 320CDI but insurance is going to kill me. So I think the 220 is the way to go, I have spoken to Brabus who are in the process of getting back to me about the performance upgrade to bring the cars BHP up to 150 and 340 Nm at 1750 - 2600 rpm which is not to sad. I would like to find a Travertine Beige model with command and fit an AMG full body kit to the car and slightly tint the windows. In all honesty do you guys think this is a wise move, I just need the final push. :p

220 cdi

hi Nick

i was wondeing just how much yr insurance company quoted for you to drive a 220CDI ? i would have thought at your age on that car (even in standard form 123bhp its no slouch!) that you would have been un insurable?

as for the bhp increase, im sure Brabhus will quote an arm and a leg to get the bhp up to 150!

123BHP?

Hi Bob
The standard E220 CDI has 143BHP, so its not a huge leap really. But as you know with diesels, torque means more than BHP. I am fortunately lucky enough to live in a very low insurance area, so my quote was not to bad (into the £2000`s all the same) all Brabus-ed up!!!The only thing is I keep getting told its an old mans car. But with 18in AMG alloys and Full AMG body kit, I am really struggling to see it myself.

I would have expected more from a Brabus mod. The powerchip fitted to my C220 CDI pushes 175 ish BHP.......

hi nick
thanx for your reply. i was looking in a parkers guide and they mentioned the 123 bhp so maybe its a typing error. so are you talking about the 220cdi from 1998 onwards?

sounds like a very nice car but the insurance is alot eh. well all i can say is if you have the dosh to do the things you want to do go for it,

best regards

bob

Hello nick,

Mercedes is not a old man car!!!! I am also 20 something! actually I am only 25 yr old!

£2000 for your insurance, with your age, not bad! how many no claim bonus you have?

The fact is, for a Mercedes, insurence cost are always high, especially for young driver, and quite really depend on where u live. I am unlucky that live in high insurance area.

We have try to quote the price for a standard one and a bodykit-ed with AMG alloy-ed one, the price make a huge difference...

From what the insurance company said, the bodykit mod will make your car more attractive(everyone know!), and more thief will interest about it!

£200!!!

Two grand for insurance !!! im weeping !!!

Gee thats alot of money i managed to buy a 200 w123 and a 190e 2.3 16
and still had some change left from 2 grand to spend on sorting things out!

i remember when i lived in Australia and there they have a state run insurance scheme , where by if you by a car and its in registration (sort of like our car tax combined with a certificate like a mot) then you were automatically covered by Gogernment 3 party insurance! how cool was that? can u imagine a British Government bringing in something like that here ? i dont think so yet it would be a good idea as i read the other week that something like 1 in 7 cars on the road has no insurance.

i have my cars on classic car policies the 190e is about £277 a year limited to 4000 miles with 2 named drivers and is fully comp!

i was going to but an Afa 156 recently till i discovered that the insurance company wanted between £550 (with £400 access) or 700 with £250 access. one company actuallyy qoted 1200 with out any NCB. ( as i decided i did nt wnat to transfer over my NCB from my work vehicle.
insurance companies are complete theives and because the cost is so high people dont pay have accidents and people like you and me with fully comp have to pay for the damage to our cars .its a complete rip off.

so when are you getting yr 220CDI ?

best regards
bob

E220 CDI

Well the next issue is going to be finding the right car. It has to be a facelift model and I would like command and fancy Travertine Beige as the colour choice. Leather is a must and mileage has to be no higher than 40k and sunroof would be a bonus. The body kit and rims can be fitted afterwards. I am going to look at private ads as well as buying from a dealer. I have seen the car with the same spec as I am after but in silver. But just fancy something different. There is not rush but I really don?t want to hang around to long. Been as an ex Daimler Chrysler employee I still have a few contacts with in the company so it should not be to hard to find the car I would like.
