 Hello
I bought a 54 plate E220 Merc
When i was driving it back from the garage after getting it about 2 months ago, I noticed a strange humming noise, sounded like either a wheel baring, or a break sticking on.
I took it straight back to the dealers i bought it from and was told after half a day they couldnt find anything wrong with it, to cause the noise.
Thinking well at least the wheels arent falling off i took it away.

Then i thought its a twenty five grand car and it shouldnt happen i took it to another dealers.

they blamed it on the 3 Wani tyres the dealer had put on my car.

I thought straight away the tyres were cheap.

I asked them to try some alloys and different tyres on my car they said no problem but it will cost you £90.00

I then thought no way and took the car, stiill humming.

I have sent a complaint via email to Mercedes head office and someone said its being investigated.
The car has one Mitchelin tyre just above legal limit and 3 brand new wani tyres.

Does anyone have any ideas on what i should do?
Or if you think this is even my problem. As I dont see why I should pay £90.00 just to see if its the tyres or not.

Your help and views would be welcome.

Thanks for reading this

Chris

One thing for sure is that you never fit two different tyre on the same axle,it is highly dangerous and all motoring organisations condem the pratice.

Those 4 bits of round rubber are what keep you connected to to God's earth. A dealer selling a £25k car with 3 budget tyres and a dodgy Michelin ought to be avoided like the plague. Would suggest you get them sorted even if there not the cause of the humming.

Is this noise the SBC braking system?

Hello everyone thanks for replying.
Since the post i have had a reply saying its under investigation. and will be resolved within 10 working days.
And the next part really rubbed salt into my wounds.
I was driving along when a young fool pulled out into the side of my car without looking, his excuse was he never looks because nothing ever comes down that road!!! Honestly they were his exact words
Lucky he scuffed the alloy wheel and burst a tyre. there is also a slight chip on the rear quarter which is being fixed through his insurance company along with my alloy wheel.
Now for the good bit, i went to Kwik Fit and had 2 new mitchellin tyres fitted through the insurance company.
And It has resolved the humming noise.
Needless to say I wont be going back to Mercedes Benz of Sunderland again
and this has been passed on in the complaint.

Does anyone think Mercedes will replace my other 2 tyres?

The goods must be of a suitable quality ===== that does include humming sounds.

thanks Malcolm the dealers called me today but i was in hospital when i turned my phone on there was a message asking to call them regarding the tyres so hopefully they will replace the other 2 and pay for the 2 i bought yesterday I will keep you all informed
Or maybe they will tell me where to go... you never know
I quoted you on your views on never fit two different tyre on the same axle,it is highly dangerous and all motoring organisations condem the pratice
so hopefully this will have done the trick
thanks again for your advise

Mercedes are now replacing my other 2 tyres free of charge and giving me the money for the one i bought
i also had some very slight blisters on my alloys so they are giving me a brand new set of alloys.
