I have some service work to do on our new little Mini, oil and filter change and brake pads all round.
As i had some spare time at work decided to google the brake pad change, as i did not know where the connections were for sensors (in a different place to the R56 GEN 2).
Anyway, this so called expert, looked like the clip was in USA, has posted a video of rear brake pad change, what a complete joke. It was like watching someone who had never held a tool in their life. The worst bit was when he stated that the calliper piston has to be pushed in to install new pads, quite correct, but he went on to use a large g clamp and just tried to force the piston back in !!!, when this was a struggle, he got a bigger bar on the g clamp and carried on forcing it in.
ON THE MINI REAR CALIPER THE PISTON HAS TO BE PUSHED AND TURNED CLOCKWISE TO GO BACK IN, AS THE HAND BRAKE WINDS IT OUT TO ADJUST !!!!.
I wondered if the hand brake worked after this expert had installed the pads ?
sometimes i just wonder

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing...

I often think that when people on forums in general ask ... is changing/replacing/fitting blah blah blah easy?
Brain surgery is easy if you're a brain surgeon & know what you're doing. Some people can't even hold a hammer!;);)

It's one of the problems with YouTube. Anyone with a phone cam can become an 'expert' which then leads others to follow their dubious lead.

Here's a classic case. Replacing the side indicator repeater lamp on an R129 SL. I've no idea how long it would take to do it his way! I may have commented on his video - 7 years back on the quick way of doing it..... You can imagine the carnage from trying to remove screws and nuts holding the wheel liner on....

So they don't come out by just sliding them forward and lift the rear end ?

Yes, of course they do! Even MB wouldn't design a lamp replacement that convoluted, would they?
Nope, I’ve worked with their lamp design team on the X Class and Q30, they’re pretty slick. Taught us a few things.
