Hi,

Having succesfully transfered the D2B fibre ring, Phone kit and CD changer from a 2002 S Class into my 2003 facelift S Class, I have tried over the weekend to install the 2002 TV tuner into my 2003 facelift S Class (with DX sat nav unit)

I have previously star coded the TV into the system so the car is expecting it!

The TV is from a 2002 car (which had the 2.5 comand head unit) and I have installed the full wiring loom from back to front of the car.

Now obviously the pinouts are different and so I have tried to work between the pinouts from the DX unit and the pinouts I have from the 2.5 unit, but the system still says "No TV" It says this on the screen of the unit and also on the dash display

At the head end on the old loom, there are a few connectors which are not on the new DX unit and so I have cut the plugs and attempted to configure the C21 connector and the smaller 8 pin connector to use the TV; but to no avail. There appears to be 2 lots of RGB wiring from the tuner however the DX pinouts I have only show 1 lot on the C21 connector.... does anyone have a pin to pin diagram showing how this connects between the old tuner and the DX head (I do realise it may not be possible at all.... but no defeatism yet please!!) I am thinking it may be a "wake up signal" or something to tell the head unit that the TV is active (I do get 12v at the TV tuner so no issues with power) or it might just not be possible!

I have pinout diagram for the TV tuner too (a Becker unit)

Any help from anyone will be gladly taken

Baz

Excellent... thanks Malcolm

These are a couple of the diagrams I have been working with but to be honest, I am not 100% certain what is required and what isn't!

Head unit wiring (I have all the pins etc. in the connectors so easy enough to swap around as required.)

Thanks again

Just some thoughts on this.

As the analogue will cease next year is it worth going along this route. Have you though about just using a digi tuner direct or through the interface that are sold

I forgot to say that I have the genuine Mercedes add on digi tuner which also uses the antenna cables from the roof arial, so it will be digi compliant.

I wanted to try and keep it all original but if there is a cheaper way to do it while still being able to use the steering wheel controls etc. I would be interested to know.

I have a 12v in car digi box which I am removing from one of my old Scorpios so if there is a way to fit this (I can soon adapt the antenna cables to fit a non generic digi box.) I would be interested. Not least because I could sell on the Mercedes digi box and pay for any interfaces etc. that way.

Do you have any more info on the interfaces or how to wire direct to the DX screen?

Thanks

Baz

Malcolm,

thanks for your input so far but I have another question.... I looked on the audiocomp.de site last night and they are selling a lead which connects the TV tuner to the comand 2.0 widescreen unit or the 2.5 unit. Does this mean there is a standard pinout for tuner to headunit which just changes depending on wether it is the old or new screens?

Do you know of a wiring diagram which just shows where the pins from the tuner go to on the headunit? The becker wiring above seems OK but there just seems to be too many cables for the new head units; the cable audiocomp are selling seems to be a C21 type connector at one end with bare wires at the other.

Finally, at my head unit; on the C21 connector, are there any cables that need doubling up if I am installing the CD Changer, phone and aux port? I imagine the whole connector will be used but I am not sure if the pins connect to two different components at the same time as I don't think the wiring diagram I have is for the W220. (if you have one, could you post it please??)

Thanks again

Baz

Thanks Malcolm.... where do I find the comand code? I assume on the side of the unit? but bear in mind that mine is the Comand 2.0 DX widescreen not the older 2.5 one

If you have nothing on the B connector then you have Bose in which case there is a separate amp for the speakers and the Bose amp is connected to the head unit via D2B fibre.

The part number of the comand unit will be on the side or the rear of the unit.

The option code, which I dont think you need anyway, is probably 352. Bose was option 810, sound system.

Sorry Alfie,

the diagram is one I was working off which I just happened to come across and thought it was a good start point!. The system I have is not a Bose system. I had to install the D2B fibre ring myself
