So a stranded group of Mother, daughter, and Grandmother, who knocks on my door,

their car is stuck nose down in a hole in the sand and a collection of passers-by were trying to free it apparently.

Fair enough these things happen, get some shoes on and walk over to them.

Straight out of a comedy all the passers-by and granny were at the back of the car pushing it further into the hole, wheels spinning.

The classic though, the daughter was sat in the front passenger seat of the car ****** texting whilst all this revving was going on driving the car deeper into its hole.

So I direct the people to the front of car which they thought was madness and told the girl in front of car to get out and push, she looked genuinely shocked !

Put some lock on I said and the car was out in seconds.

I was thinking about some bigger issues so it was a comic release.

Lol I have to say these things happen and anyone who helps is a star. I’m shocked that people like the girl texting can just do that rather than err…help

I found it funny, they seemed quite a nice lot and seemed genuinely shocked that I would help.
It wasn't a big car and I think four people pushing it into an ever deepening hole was hilarious.
Too slow, I should have had it on my phone and on some video channel I suppose.

My very well qualified youth, was taught at a very early age to do all the things he might not want to when he gets older.

I would feel I had failed him as a parent if he couldn't "do the basics" and could find out how to if he didn't know.

By all means, pay someone else but never lose sight of what they are doing for you.

How do you value your staff if you don't know or understand what they are doing?

When given the "couldn't wire a plug speech" I usually enquire if they have a learning disability.

Seems I not alone, I remember a good friend. 25 Yr ago teaching his son how to get a tyre off, on of a rim and how to repair puncture. I taught same guy how to arc, tig mig weld and make pts on lathe and mill a grand man now 40 yr old who does just about all himself. I feel f proud to have taught him as did his father.

I taught our 2 children a lot of practical things like cooking and decorating from a young age (as my late father did for me) , and it's paid off handsomly over the years. Amusingly, SIL's father has never been DIY oriented (to this day, in his 70's) and I've had any number of amusing phone calls from daughter - "Dad, we're in B&Q stood in front of a rack of **** products and we want to do ****, what do we need?!" Even funnier was putting my workshop up 15 years ago, my workman and I had SIL to help, so gave him a cordless drill driver, said "We'll get the wall section into position, when we say Go put the screws in to secure it and hold it while we get the next one". OK, first panel in place, put the screws in - no idiot, push down and squeeze the trigger hard!!! Thankfully that was 15 years ago, he's had numerous training sessions with me since and is now pretty competent (despite his Masters in Electronic Engineering!!:D:D

Theo “unfortunately“ gets to do lots of things with me. He changes the wheels over summer to winter, his sisters did the same.

He does “Bushcraft” at school, although I don’t believe they’re allowed knives… So he was using mine yesterday ;)

I won’t generally take on graduates… I want people to fix things not talk to me for an hour about it… Give most of them a screwdriver and they’ll stab themselves…

My youth has graduated recently with a first and University prize (from a real one) and he can wield a screwdriver if need be.

And if you can get him to talk for an hour then you will be doing well.

There‘s always an exception that proves the rule - well done to your youth for the first :)

I was more impressed with the University Prize, a £25 voucher from Amazon.

Seems quite reasonable after paying over £9,000 a year to teach himself Finance.

My eldest got away with just £3,000 per year for Durham (Business and Finance) as he was living in Wales so they cap it at £3,000 for Uni fees (or free of going to a Welsh Uni).
Eldest daughter at Aberystwyth - paying £9k for 1hr week of face to face :(

1 hour is it her boyfriend ?

How does she get such preferential treatment for so little?

When the little treasures were striking he might turn up for a lecture and no one would arrive, to maximise its effects he was told.

Then there were the google cut&pastes for lectures and tests, if he had done it the Turnitin plagiasrism software would have had a fit.
