South West - Warning

Good Day

I've joined this forum just to leave this warning.

I have owned a C240 Sport Estate 1998 from new and was well served by the MB network initially.

In the last four years since moving to the SouthWest however to service has been so disgraceful that I want to warn others. Either sell or jettison your Merc before you move down here.

My car is currently a distress sale following the latest experience. Every service has been a nightmare: dents - wrong oil - work not done etc. but now I cannot even get the remote booking personnel to respond to frequent requests when I have a problem.

If you have a Merc and are considering a move to Devon - torch it!

Hello Paul

I've found Plymouth even worse than Exeter - they are both part of the same dreadful group - avoid at all costs.

Has anyone tried the independant in Truro? - I need somewhere to fix the car before I sell it!

Try the independant in Plymouth, Eddie at Mercare !!

I use the stealership for parts, but wouldn't dream of letting them loose on the car.

Cheers,

Richard

Dear Blassberg

correct pronunciation is 'dog breath' - please do not confuse traditional spelling with olde worlde kitsch... (incidentally most here in Devon don't aspire to pronunciation - or indeed any communication beyond the involuntary discharge).

I have a Yamaha XJR1300 SP

ooh arr- it's a bit of a tractor ride but MB Dorchester in darzet have been fine, although admittedly I mainly use them for parts and only had one job done there when I couldn't do it myself.

I forgot to say in my original post that it is the incivility and contempt that truly distinguishes these SW MB dealerships.

We are all conditioned to expect and accept incompetence from any franchised outlet - but I haven't stopped crying since the service person for my replacement marque called just to tell me everything was ok.

I'm used to being treated like something unpleasant stuck to the sole of the MB operative telling me yet again that they have not done what they promised to do, that I am overwhelmed by ordinary humanity.

Usually some moderator removes critical postings but if one person avoids the problems I have had then my time will have been well spent.

Mercare
Unit 4, 38 Sutton Rd, Plymouth, PL4 0HE - 01752 226282

Ask for Eddie if he is available, he owns and runs the place.

He prefers older models like W124, W201 etc... but does good work on the newer stuff too.

Good Luck,

Richard

Hi I have just become a member. I have a 1994 E220 convertible and want to find somewhere reliable to have it maintained. It is beautiful. When I took it to the local dealership it went in with 1 problem and came out with 4!! They did fix it ultimately and the guy was ok but it just did not seem like they knew what they were doing on an old car. Any ideas for Warwickshire?

My dealings with Mercedes Southwest is also the worst that I have ever had with any car, and I have owned some 430 cars. It was a joy to own a Merc in Sweden,Germany and London. With this Southwest outfit I ordered parts on the 29th Sept, they came in on 7th Oct, I paid for them only to find that they had ordered the wrong parts. 16 phone calls later I am still waiting and they have never returned a call, even after promising to. This week I will drive the 30 miles to their showroom, block the entrance until I get my money back. I will keep my SL, its so nice and try Taunton.
