I have a 2000 reg [W] 230 slk.

Always had it serviced and MOT'd on time and no failings to date - But one thing that worried me when I bought the car [I am the 2nd owner, since Nov 2004] is that there is no spare wheel. just a pump type thingamybob, that apparantley in the event of a puncture, I am suppossed to use....

My dilemma is this:

A] Does this jobbie get checked at the MOT? for being pressurised with what ever is supposed to be in it

B] How on earth do I use it, in the event of a blow out?

Many thanks for advice.

ps I hope I am not being toooo blonde for my car.

A) no it's not
B) it's not much use on a blow out the tyre tends to shred and it's scrap.
I have one in mine and I've never used it -"touch wood"

Thanks for speedy reply... I have an added prob...

I live on a spanish isle and want to import the car. to comply with the Spanish MOT [ITV] What is the point of not having a spare wheel? or what is the point of this blow up thingamy?

I am at a loss to know why Mercedes just did not incorporate a spare wheel.

My mums smart doesn't come with a spare. After 2 punctures and subsequent recovery on a transporter, she now carries a spare tyre behind the seats. Came in handy when she hit a pot hole last year. We had her on her way within the hour instead of waiting an hour for recovery and then being off the road for 24 hours.
I clipped the kerb on Friday, trying to avoid a cyclist, and now have a tennis ball in the sidewall. Its going to take a few days to get hold of a matching replacement so I'm stuck with it for most of this week. I'm staying local so running on it but as I've got one, at least if I need to I can swap to the space saver.
Hence I'm not a big fan of puncture kits. Spares were an option on most models so you may be able to get a spare or space saver to fit.

The wife's 1999 V has a spare wheel of sorts with a collapsable tyre that presumably you need to inflate before fitting to the car. There's an electric pump in the boot to enable this. Not sure that I would even want to entertain this on a dark night.

the 170 came from factory with a space saver, very easy to use, would think the first owner took it out for some reason!!!

As Cole above and the pump is to blow up the space saver, these cars should also carry a blow up can, its the same on my SL
