Hi does anyone know if a 2004 ml270 with a space saver spare wheel cage mounted under boot floor can be modified to take a full size spare

Is it a steel cage welded underneath or moulded into the floor metal?

The problem you have is that a normal size wheel is over twice the width of the space saver, hence the cradle would have to be modified to accept it, and then you run the risk of it hitting something as it would be hanging lower.
A large cage at the rear used to be fitted to accept a standard size wheel, like a huge chrome thing that swung out before opening tailgate.
For what it is worth, buy another standard size wheel, keep it at home and use the space saver just to get you home, then change the wheel.
