My mechanic is trying to fit a replacement air ram to my E320 Cdi 2007 estate.

He says he needs a special socket to tighten the pipe fitting onto the Ram. I’ve looked on eBay and they are available for about £15 but with £80 carraige !!!

can anyone tell me where to buy one at a sensible price or have one I can borrow please.
I’m based near Leigh-on-sea, Essex.

thanks. Kev

I replaced my air springs recently and the pipe collet nuts came undone easily using a combination spanner end on with a bar through the ring end.
I was anticipating having to make a tool by cutting a slot in a deep socket and grinding flats on the outside.

I remember watching a video where a chap modified a deep socket to fit over the pipe to access the nut on a Cayenne air spring, if you know the size then buy a socket and get to work with a grinder or get your mechanic to do so.

The way I would do it is to weld a nut onto the drive end of an extended socket then cut a slot along its entire length so it fits over the pipework then use a spanner on the welded nut to release the fitting.
