I'm hearing rumours at work about plans to put Specs speeding/number plate cameras on the Motorway network with cameras at every entry and exit slip roads, including rest stops. The goal is to measure average speed for all motorway journeys and, allegedly, reduce bottlenecks by slowing us all down. Apparently it's way cheaper than putting GPS in all the cars to track where we're at and gets most of the desired result. No reason to stop at Motorways either.
Anyone else picked up anything on this? There's one road in Scotland, A77, where they're used most of the length of the road at all times. Apart from that I've only see them in use on the M25 at long motorway roadworks.
Hmm! I can see the number plate thefts rising even faster...!
Cheers!
John
