I'm aware that speed camera vans are often parked in 'safety locations' so I'd like to be made aware of know locations so I can adjust my speed even further below the legal limits and not contribute to accident hot spots.
I honestly haven't/never will speed through a village or residential area nor at school times and people who do make me sick. Familes/kids/dogs/horses deserve a safe environment.

However, as an individual who can cover 1800miles a month behind the wheel, I see that all of these high risk zones are not outside schools/hospitals/care homes/vets/playground parks etc. Thay are in fact the bends we have on the country side roads (obvioulsy the large bushes/foliage at the side of the roads where the camera vans position themselves must be incredibly dangerous), any long flat/dry/good visibility straight roads, or the crest of any steep hill we have to accelerate to climb up. Long stretches of straight motorway are also a hazard it would seem.

Does anyone have a tested and reliable camera/laser detector I could rely on?

The yanks have heaps of these including laser jammers, but I'm not sure these are suitable for the UK database following advice given from a fellow yankee. I don't want a lapse in concentration to cost me my license, as it's incredibly easy to increase speed in an AMG without any real effort or intention, or when overtaking a slow moving truck/tractor as the acceleration is brutal at 600bhp.

Mature responses only please;)

Avoid Jammers, they work well but will land you with a prison sentence as are obvious to the gun operator and lead to a charge of peverting the course of justice (quite serious).

Many Satnav's like Waze have an updating database which work well legally, otherwise you are looking for a Snooper/Road Angel, legal to buy but illegal to use (if spotted).

The cameras and vans are located within a couple of mile radius of an accident black spot. This could of course mean the van is on a completely different road that might give more opportunity for revenue collection but still meet the guidelines...

Quite a few sat navs can have camera location databases added. I’ve had road angels and radar and laser detectors in the past but haven’t used any for years as by the tome you’ve got the message you’re already done.

Sat nav database is probably the best these days and don’t speed unless you know the road very well...

If you have a smartphone, who doesn't these days, then try TomTom AmiGO. It's free from Google Play and works extremely well. Or, as said above, Waze is also very good.

As Post#2, avoid laser jammers (ie garage door openers) they are illegal whereas speed camera detectors are legal (in the UK).
The sentence for using a laser jammer will be far more severe than a speeding fine so don't be tempted.

I use SCDB on my GLC. Works well for fixed and average speed cameras but doesn’t pick up mobile vans.

I suppose it's fair to ask why, if you are so unusually conscientious and meticulous in observing every speed limit, you now need sophisticated detection equipment?
A feather in your cap for such an approach. If more had your attitude, we would all be safer and wealthier.

Much the same as the John Lewis Partnership having “Never knowingly undersold” I have never consciously exceeded a speed limit for some considerable time, yet in recent Years I have been re-educated with a speed awareness course and have 6 penalty points currently active on my driving license, my failing is complacency or perhaps distraction as on all three occasions I was caught out after a notified speed change on a moving carriageway. I too have in the past invested in technology to forewarn and as BC as stated above, by the time the thing beeps the authorities have already got you, and as LK I also use my cruise control regularly as a control measure, but in my case as I have already stated, complacency is my failing and I don’t see any technological answer to that problem!

Cheers lads/lasses for the replies: honestly and I do mean honestly, I would never race through a residential area. I react ‘badly‘ if anyone roars past me and my dogs at 50/60 when it’s clearly 30mph.
I’ve been knocked off a push bike twice (Once reversed into by a ****** who doesn’t use mirrors, and once again by a ****** who doesn’t use side mirrors) and driven head on into when on a motorbike (car on my side of the road across a blind bend).
I also know a lad who was racing his Vauxhall Nova (way back when) and hit a girl on a crossing and she died. Steve went to prison for a couple of years as a result, but doubt the reality of what he lives with is easy. I’ve had advanced bike and car training and with the police, so anticipate most things, just not always camera vans in irregular places.

On A-roads 60 doesn’t usually feel quick, and our lass received points overtaking a goods van (45mph). —mega long straight road with no traffic coming towards us, but as she accelerated past she obviously broke 60mph easily so was caught by a filthy little scab hiding in the brush.
As for motorway driving it feel as akin to sitting on a train, I stick cruise control on but quickly lose my patience with anyone who either drives too close to me, or decides to swiftly pull into my braking gap without having the courtesy to either indicate or wait for me to pass them. And when I say lose my patience I’m underselling it. I will out accelerate any idiot before letting them wind me up.
It’s very easy and doesn’t feel unsafe driving at 80-85mph (so I’ve been told) as most people do on the motorway but camera vans are rife where I commute so I’d simply like a heads-up.

I read heaps on jammers last night and it seems like a given that some bird will be due if the plod sees it in action. Shame.

It’s incredibly easy to speed, cars are much smoother and more powerful these days. A 1.0 fiesta has 125bhp!

It looks like the only way you discover the mobile can is when you’ve actually passed one and have that sick feeling settle in.
Nothing available seems to detect these unless your being Lasered then and there.
The yanks have devices that read the air for laser frequencies though, some detect radar from two miles away.

That's the problem of course. I nearly came a cropper a few weeks ago, travelling on a road that has average speed cameras. I was in a very long line of traffic and suddenly realised I was doing 10mph more than allowed, as was everyone else. Stupidly stupid I know and fully expected a nice letter through the door, but so far seem to have escaped.

Looks interesting ta. Is this uploaded to the car or a plug-in sat nav?
Download to computer, then transfer to SD card which remains in the slot in the armrest. Car reads the cameras in as Personal Hotspots to Comand. Alert 15 seconds beforehand (or whatever interval you select). Picks up cameras nearby so you may get alert for a camera on the other carriageway or on an adjacent road but not really a problem. Costs 9.95€ for a year and you an download updated files as often as you want.

I have some important info to share:

When driving my work van I was awarded speeding points. In a van the limit in a 60mph car zone is actually 50mph for a van as they have uneven loads so brake/crash unpredictability.

So........ when I drove home from work the other day in my car I actually saw the camera van scum in front of me. I’d overtaken a tractor and then it was in my sight. I hit the cruise control at 60mph on the nose, the Cnut in the safety van was slowly accelerating away from me
For starters the ginger scrote should only be driving at 50 M A X I M U M.
I then followed through the 40 and 30mph zones with cruise control set again, and he was still increasing the gap between us!
I’ve contacted the ticket office already as I have the video file from my dash cam. They can use the same method of time travelled over distance and frame rate to determine the speed of the van just like they do for us.

I’m not on any social media at all other than this forum so can’t share with the world.

Suggestions please:
