Would be interesting to know the same tolerances or even if they exist on mobile speed cameras/speed traps? The fact those exist in some cases are in response to public complaints, therefore maybe the tolerances are less otherwise they may be caused of not doing their jobs?

Those allowances are pretty much in line with everything I've been told in the past.
The exception does seem to be mobile scamera vans. These seem to operate to much tighter tolerance. MrsLK some years ago was prosecuted for 32 in a 30.

Very unlucky I was pulled over doing 38 in a 30 zone by police using a speed gun, let me off with a warning as "an early Christmas present"..

Many moons ago when taking the IAM driving test I was told to do 70 + 7 + 2,on the motorway, otherwise I may be failed by the examiner who was a serving police officer.

When I had a sat nav on my motorcycle the sat nav would show 27 mph the speedo 30 mph.

In my wife's 2015 c class the sat nav and speedo show the same speed. Are the speedos more accurate now?

I see on this list that West Yorkshire has 402 cameras which makes them the highest after London. I'm not aware of their traffic density but having argued many times that "Speed Kills" is not true, I'd really like to know if they have a smaller accident rate than the rest of the country?

Hmmm, - statistics.

If you tell me what result you would like the statistics to say, I'm sure I can come up with the "correct" input information :)

ACPO guidelines are still 10%+2mph although those remain guidelines, you can still be prosecuted.

The plan to remove the 10%+2mph leeway was halted because speedos are still not accurate enough.

You are more likely to be prosecuted in built up areas but there's ample room to challenge borderline speeding charges because how can one tell if one is exceeding the speed limit if the speedometer can not?

This isn't current IAM Advice, at least in Scotland. An examiner may overlook a couple of MPH above what is posted a couple of times, but as an IAM Observer, our advice is to drive to your speedo reading.

Did the car test a long time ago and did the motorcycle test early 2000s and at that time no mention of "extra speed" so looks like things have changed.
