Car: 1998 C43 (GB or UK ie got the steering wheel on the correct side)

Using the speed limiter I can limit my speed, in 5mph increments, to 20mph, 25mph and 30mph. Should I be able to limit the speed higher than 30mph? Reading other threads it appears that people are able to set their speed limit pretty much as high as they like.

I've messed around with it a bit with key in position 2, lever to position 5 then position 4 then blah, blah blah but haven't achieved anything. Whilst going through this process the (trip counter bit of the) display has shown "---", "30mph" and "120mph" at various points in response to my wiggling the lever up and down. I suspect I've been doing something to the permanent speed limit but the manual isn't particularly clear.

Further advice would be most welcome.

On my 1999 E240 I can set the limit to whatever speed (in 5mph increments) with no problem, so I guess your speedotronic is playing up

ive never figured out how to set the permanent limiter. This is primarily for snow tyres so not an issue in the uk. The variable one only works when moving - or at least with the engine running. Switch it on (light on the stick and LIM light up) then lifting it up should set it and then up/down to alter it. It does work in 5mph increments and above a certain speed, seems to work in less. If you pull the lever back (resume on cruise) it seems to set to the exact speed you are doing -eg 77mph

Mine doesn't do that - only sets 20, 25 and 30. If I cancel it then pull the lever back at above 30 it just resumes at 30 and tries to slow me down (given the other parameters about being within 20mph of the set limit - you know what I mean).

Seems mine may be faulty. Seems an old fault though, doesn't it? Is it a symptom of some other failure?

Sounds odd but I have heard of similar issues with cruise control packing up above certain speeds. From memory it was down to non spec tyre sizes. Other than that, Im out of ideas I'm afraid.

Can you not adjust the limiter by 1mph increments as follows.....? I could in my ML.

Adjust to nearest lower 5mph, eg 50 if you wanted 53. Then pull cruise lever toward you as if flashing the lights. You get 1mph increments.

Useful for trimming your speed to a car in front on cruise if you want to stay on limiter.

On my c class 2003

The permanent speed limiter is separate from the normal limiter and cruise control.

I can set the normal limiter in 5 mph increments but have only tried it when the car is moving.
The cruise control is different and works in smaller steps.
I cannot use cruise and limiter at the same time.(obviously).
