With the proliferation of mobile speed cameras everywhere I've started to use the speed limiter more and more.
Can using this for a prolonged time cause any damage to the car? (98 C250TD automatic)

Don't believe so no.

However, you may find that you need to give its nose a good blow when you hit a stretch of open deristricted road, and you may see some telltale signs in the rear view mirror.

It happens in our 300TD if its been in traffic for a few days.

Yeah, that's just clearing the tubes.  We rarely see any of the black stuff under normal driving conditions.

Personally I've never had cause to use the limiter, prefering to use good ol' common sense.  However I do make use of the cruise control on motorways.

Fair enough.
The problem is the cameras don't have common sense and a couple if miles over the limit can get you booked.
Try driving in Northants or Oxfordshire.

I used to see smoke at the back when I first bought it used . This was slightly embarrassing for a nice shiny Merc but things have cleared up now.
