i have a c220 the problem is this......firstly the speedo used to jump to life around 40 mph,,,i took the cluster apart wiped the needle and resting pin with an anti-static cloth and all went well but as you guessed its back although only when the dash is lit....is it the static building up due to lights being on or could it be the heat from the bulbs or is it time for a new speedo head...................all help appreciated coz its a pain in the ass

sticky speedo

Hi Ken, I have the same problem with my 1994 C 180. The speedo needle sticks to the post until I am about 40kph and it jumps to life! Lol. Didn't think MB could be capable of this type of entertainment while driving. However, it only happens when the temp is hot in Summerish weather and its around 30C or more. Otherwise, like today at 15C its normally operating with no entertainment! I am afraid that I may be caught over the speed limit when its stuck. How can I sue MB for this failure of its instrument to read correctly? Defective instrument or unreliable instrument? Thanks buddies.
