speedo problem (w140)

hello folks, with my new part on the way to fix my heating (HOPEFULLY). I hope someone can help with my 2nd problem..
Few weeks ago I jump started my motor off another and it seems in hindsight not a very wise move with a merc, but anyway my speedo , mpg gauge and cruise control are not working..... plus I've noticed big difference in gear changes, since then it has come back on for a few mins (right after I gave it a bit of welly turning sideways out of a junction) :Oops:.. so can anyone shed some light on what I did and how to fix it....

Well you have lost a speed signal,,have you pulled a wire off from somewhere

no .... It turned out I didn't need to jump it at all... there was an earth wire that came away from the battery in the boot, only discovered this while trying to jump it repeatedly.. so this is the only wire involved???
